Stocks were mixed today, as the KBW Banking Index fell 1.50% and the KBW Regional Banking Index fell 0.55%. The broader S&P 500 Index was up 1.18%.

The Bank Index was led by KeyCorp, Comerica Incorporated, and SunTrust, which were down 11.81%, 8.73%, and 8.45%, respectively. The best performers of the day were Capital One, Northern Trust Corporation, and M&T Bank, which had gains of 7.81%, 2.30%, and 1.83%.

Leading the Regional Banking Index lower were SVB Financial Group, UCBH Holdings, and Cathay General Bancorp, which were down 23.41%, 5.03%, and 4.34%, respectively. The best performers of the day were South Financial Group, Whitney Holding Corporation, and Frontier Financial Corporation, which had gains of 7.27%, 4.71%, and 4.65%.
