Bank stocks were mixed today, as the KBW Banking Index declined 1.04% and the KBW Regional Banking Index rose 0.77%. The broader S&P 500 Index was up 1.19%.

Leading the Bank Index were Bank of New York Mellon, KeyCorp, and Commerce Bancshares, which were up 3.91%, 2.61%, and 1.99%, respectively. Lagging on the day were SunTrust, Wells Fargo, and Citigroup, which had losses of 5.53%, 4.30%, and 2.81%.

Leading the Regional Banking Index were UCBH Holdings, Citizens Republic Bancorp, and Pacific Capital Bancorp, which were up 6.58%, 6.25%, and 5.11%, respectively. Offsetting these were Corus Bankshares, Central Pacific Financial Corp., and SVB Financial Group, which had losses of 10.24%, 6.55%, and 5.46%.
