Bank stocks declined today, as the KBW Banking Index fell 0.30% and the KBW Regional Banking Index fell 1.68%. The broader S&P 500 Index was down 0.10%.

The Bank Index was led by Fifth Third Bancorp, Bank of America, and Citigroup, which were down 11.98%, 6.73%, and 4.90%, respectively. The best performers of the day were Capital One, SunTrust, and M&T Bank, which had gains of 8.09%, 4.92%, and 2.94%.

Leading the Regional Banking Index lower were Umpqua Holdings Corporation, F.N.B. Corporation, and South Financial Group, which were down 9.94%, 8.46%, and 6.11%, respectively. The best performers of the day were Webster Financial Corporation, East West Bancorp, and Susquehanna Bancshares, which had gains of 3.43%, 3.06%, and 2.69%.
