Bank stocks led the market lower today amid concerns that the “bad bank” plan is in trouble. The KBW Banking Index fell 3.88% and the KBW Regional Banking Index fell 3.32%. The broader S&P 500 Index was down 2.28%.

The Bank Index was led by Fifth Third Bancorp, Regions Financial Corporation, and Huntington Bancshares Incorporated, which were down 21.64%, 16.43%, and 16.03%, respectively. Leading the Regional Banking Index lower were Wilmington Trust Corporation, Synovus Financial, and Colonial Bancgroup, which were down 15.44%, 14.29%, and 13.19%, respectively.
