Bank Stock Roundup - March 11, 2009
Stocks were mixed today, as the KBW Bank Index rose 3.05% while the KBW Regional Banking Index fell 0.09%. The broader S&P 500 Index was up 0.24%.
The Bank Index was led by Zions Bancorporation, Bank of New York Mellon, and U.S. Bank, which were up 10.72%, 9.58%, and 8.95%, respectively. Lagging on the day were Fifth Third Bancorp, Huntington Bancshares Incorporated, and Regions Financial Corporation, which had losses of 6.67%, 6.02%, and 5.61%.
Gainers on the day for the Regional Banking Index were SVB Financial Group, Susquehanna Bancshares, and First Horizon National Corporation, which were up 11.66%, 3.89%, and 3.75%, respectively. Offsetting these were Sterling Financial Corporation, Colonial Bancgroup, and Central Pacific Financial Corp., which had losses of 19.35%, 12.20%, and 9.40%.
