Stocks were mixed today, as the KBW Banking Index fell 1.43% and the KBW Regional Banking Index fell 0.99%. The broader S&P 500 Index was up 0.77%.

The Bank Index was led by Synovus Financial, Huntington Bancshares Incorporated, and SunTrust, which were down 7.96%, 7.14%, and 6.51%, respectively. The best performers of the day were Citigroup, Fifth Third Bancorp, and Regions Financial Corporation, which had gains of 6.59%, 4.17%, and 3.46%.

Leading the Regional Banking Index lower were UCBH Holdings, Synovus Financial, and BOK Financial Corporation, which were down 9.41%, 7.96%, and 6.31%, respectively. The best performers of the day were Colonial Bancgroup, South Financial Group, and Sterling Financial Corporation, which had gains of 27.66%, 12.94%, and 11.11%.
