Stocks declined today, giving up much of yesterday’s gains.  The KBW Banking Index fell 7.38% and the KBW Regional Banking Index fell 8.08%. The broader S&P 500 Index was down 2.03%.

The Bank Index was led by Huntington Bancshares Incorporated, M&I, and Synovus Financial, which were down 15.79%, 11.20%, and 10.89%, respectively.  Leading the Regional Banking Index lower were Central Pacific Financial Corp., Citizens Republic Bancorp, and Webster Financial Corporation, which were down 20.95%, 18.42%, and 15.22%, respectively.
