Bank Stock Roundup - March 25, 2009
Stocks climbed moderately today, as the KBW Banking Index rose 4.93% and the KBW Regional Banking Index rose 3.18%. The broader S&P 500 Index was up 0.95%.
The Bank Index was led by Capital One, JP Morgan Chase, and Fifth Third Bancorp, which were up 8.64%, 8.18%, and 7.04%, respectively. Lagging on the day were Huntington Bancshares Incorporated, Citigroup, and KeyCorp, which had losses of 6.90%, 1.99%, and 0.47%.
Leading the Regional Banking Index were Central Pacific Financial Corp., Pacific Capital Bancorp, and CVB Financial Corp., which were up 8.83%, 8.01%, and 6.92%, respectively. Offsetting these were Frontier Financial Corporation, Colonial Bancgroup, and Wintrust Financial Corporation, which had losses of 12.59%, 10.31%, and 6.01%.
