Bank stocks declined today, as the KBW Banking Index fell 1.64% and the KBW Regional Banking Index fell 4.71%. The broader S&P 500 Index was down 0.64%.
The Bank Index was led by Zions Bancorporation, Huntington Bancshares Incorporated, and M&I, which were down 6.84%, 6.25%, and 6.09%, respectively. The best performers of the day were Bank of New York Mellon, Citigroup, and Capital One, which had gains of 3.83%, 1.67%, and 0.99%.
Leading the Regional Banking Index lower were East West Bancorp, UCBH Holdings, and Citizens Republic Bancorp, which were down 11.09%, 9.15%, and 9.10%, respectively.
