Banking stocks increased for the fourth consecutive day, as the KBW Banking Index rose 3.92% and the KBW Regional Banking Index rose 1.62%. The broader S&P 500 Index was up 3.53%.

The Bank Index was led by Citigroup, State Street Corporation, and Northern Trust Corporation, which were up 15.95%, 7.68%, and 6.86%, respectively. Lagging on the day was Commerce Bancshares, which had a loss of 1.18%.

Leading the Regional Banking Index were Citizens Republic Bancorp, Corus Bankshares, and Susquehanna Bancshares, which were up 10.00%, 9.24%, and 7.62%, respectively. Offsetting these were Umpqua Holdings Corporation, Fulton Financial Corporation, and Wintrust Financial Corporation, which had losses of 2.62%, 1.74%, and 1.70%.
