Lead Engineer - Unix
Job Description:
This position functions as the primary contact within Enterprise Technology Infrastructure (ETI) in developing and maintaining technology strategic and tactical plans for the overall IT architecture to ensure the successful integration and delivery of new technology systems. The Lead Engineer will provide technical leadership and consult across the organization, from strategic decision making down to the tactical engineering project planning level. The Lead Engineer will gain organizational commitment for adoption of all high-level infrastructure plans, and initiate and drive the evaluation, certification and methods for implementing technology to ensure the successful operational delivery.
Assure representation for IT Risk, Infrastructure or Delivery through the lifecycle for all relevant projects. Responsible for coordination of activities and/or contribution of solutions for projects in order to deliver high quality business technology solutions across the enterprise. Work with other technology planners to facilitate projects. Deliver project plans and skilled resources, track and report progress, manage costs; assure execution, timely completion, and implementation to meet project objectives. Follow up with the users to ensure service-level agreements are reached; outstanding issues are resolved and an environment of continuous improvement is attained. Responsible for building strategic relationship between the major IT groups to insure comprehensive IT representation. Perform initial strategic assessments to understand project vision and scope; and assess impact and risk. Facilitate efficient/effective integration for new projects, as well as, every day production. Serve as the escalation point to ensure successful delivery of new technology business solutions. Consultant on strategic and tactical project issues. Work with EIS management to establish and/or adjust project priorities.
PREFERRED SKILLS -
In depth architectural knowledge of the technology components utilized within large complex IT environments; ability to read and analyze infrastructure diagrams to identify potential production risks and experience at driving issues to resolution; adept at conducting research into emerging technologies and trends, standards, and products as required; ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies, including the planning to integrate into existing computing environment; strong understanding of IT operational processes and familiarity with standards and trends relative to IT processes; working technical knowledge of current systems infrastructure, software, protocols, and standards, including SOA and utility computing models ability to plan and estimate technology costs at a high level; experienced in building/maintaining business relationships;DEMONSTRATED TECHNICAL EXPERT WITHIN THE UNIX FIELD.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS -
College degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills may be acquired; 7 years experience working in a large IT environment supporting multiple computing environments, operating systems and hardware platforms. Demonstrated ability to determine key needs, diagnose and address problems, assess risk and drive issues to resolution. Demonstrated change agent and ability to influence others. High level of architectural knowledge and the ability to read and analyze infrastructure diagrams.
