Complete comprehensive underwriting on existing customer loans secured by real estate to pro-actively identify opportunities to mitigate the Company’s and/or investor’s loss exposure, with the primary emphasis on working with the customer to retain homeownership. Require supporting additional default responsibilities including collection calling. Analyze customer’s financial profile, equity position and Company/investor objectives against various loss models to maximize recovery and, if possible, convert to performing status. Analyze and sensitize financial projections on existing customers to assess credit worthiness of assigned accounts to assist in evaluating credit risk and future business potential. Request and review all appropriate sources of credit and financial information; contact customer to review credit performance with HSBC and other financial and/or retail organizations. Highlight market conditions and customer risk factors. Summarize findings, present and make recommendations from analyses and underwriting to HSBC, investor, government agency and mortgage insurance company (if applicable), including foreclosure or charge-offs. Proactively identify opportunities to mitigate the companies and or investors loss exposure up to the foreclosure sale. Review BPO/appraisals to determine loss/gain or property issues for the Company, Investors, government agencies and mortgage insurance companies. Review title searches to determine lien position and escalate if title issues are determined. Review system, off line and third party documents.

Correspond with all parties necessary to obtain requisite information to analyze and process the workout; including attorneys, mortgage insurance companies, borrowers, investors, government agencies, and realtors. Negotiate mutually beneficial arrangements with borrowers, HSBC, investors, government agencies, mortgage insurance companies and realtors. Counsel customers on resolving unfavorable credit performance. Skip trace customers to establish contact. Requires supporting additional default responsibilities including collection calling, Adhere to delegations of authority offered by Investor, government agency and mortgage insurance company when applicable. Prepare appropriate forms on existing and proposed commitments; ensure complete documentation and compliance with established guidelines; notify appropriate personnel of unique situations. Recognize internal account maintenance issues, complete the appropriate system inquires to correct them. Adhere strictly to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with Company and regulatory standards, policies and practices; report control weaknesses, compliance breaches and operational loss events. Maintain production and quality goals to meet individual and departmental goals. Coordinate activities with other areas of the Company as required ensuring effective and timely problem resolution. Ensure any compliance issues are resolved and manage timelines within investor guidelines. Complete other related duties as assigned, including executing payment extensions and offset bank accounts on Home Equity loans and making monetary adjustments on accounts according to business need and within established guidelines. Support the Company’s Diversity programs.

Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, related field or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of three years proven mortgage credit analysis and/or collections experience or equivalent
  • Well-developed communications, negotiations, customer service, organizational, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Thorough knowledge of financial and credit analysis techniques
  • Detailed understanding of mortgage documents
  • Awareness of how market conditions can impact recommendations for loss mitigation opportunities
  • Knowledge of products, services, policies and regulations impacting unit of responsibility
  • Ability to interpret comparative market analysis and appraisal for consistency, accuracy, and quality
  • Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent mainframe systems and software packages
